Compliance & AML Officer
Compliance & AML Officer Reporting to: CEO
Role overview
The Compliance & AML Officer will support the compliance and anti-money laundering functions of the Company and its regulated entities, ensuring that the applicable regulatory requirements, internal policies, and procedures are consistently implemented across the business. The role will be responsible for maintaining effective AML/KYC controls, monitoring client onboarding and ongoing customer activity, supporting regulatory compliance, and overseeing the compliance performance of agents and other relevant business partners. The successful candidate will work closely with Compliance, AML, Operations, Client Services, Sales, and senior management to identify and mitigate regulatory, financial crime, conduct, and operational risks.
Key responsibilities
1. Compliance oversight • Support the implementation and ongoing maintenance of the Company’s compliance framework as required by the Financial Services Commission of Mauritius and Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission. • Monitor compliance with applicable laws, regulations, regulatory guidance, and internal policies and procedures. • Assist in maintaining and updating compliance policies, procedures, risk assessments, and internal controls. • Conduct periodic compliance reviews and identify areas requiring corrective action or improvement. • Support the preparation of compliance reports, management information, and regulatory submissionlitiess, where applicable. • Escalate material compliance concerns, breaches, and regulatory risks to the senior management. • Assist with regulatory inspections, audits, and information requests. • Maintain accurate and complete compliance records and ensure that relevant documentation is readily available.
2. AML / KYC and client onboarding • Ensure that client onboarding is conducted in accordance with the applicable AML/CFT requirements and the Company’s internal procedures. • Review and monitor the completion of Know Your Customer (KYC) and Customer Due Diligence (CDD) checks before clients are approved. • Ensure that required identification and verification documents are obtained, reviewed, and appropriately recorded. • Review client risk assessments and ensure that clients are assigned an appropriate risk classification. • Monitor the completion of enhanced due diligence for high-risk clients, where required. • Ensure that sanctions, PEP, adverse media, and other relevant screening checks are completed and appropriately documented. • Review and monitor source of funds / source of wealth information, where required by the applicable risk-based procedures. • Identify deficiencies in onboarding files and ensure that outstanding information or documentation is followed up and resolved. • Monitor ongoing customer due diligence and ensure that client information is updated when required. • Assist in the identification, investigation, and escalation of suspicious activity and unusual transactions. • Maintain appropriate AML records and support the preparation of internal AML reports and, where applicable, regulatory or FIU-related reporting. • Ensure that AML/KYC procedures are consistently applied across all supported entities.
3. Agent and business partner monitoring • Monitor the activities and overall performance of agents, introducers, and other relevant business partners. • Conduct periodic reviews of agent activity to identify potential compliance, conduct, and reputational risks. • Monitor whether agents operate in accordance with the Company’s policies, procedures, agreements, and applicable regulatory requirements. • Review agent-related complaints, client feedback, and other indicators of potential misconduct. • Identify and escalate concerns relating to misleading representations, inappropriate sales practices, unauthorized promises, or other potentially non-compliant conduct. • Support the implementation of agent monitoring controls, including periodic reviews, risk assessments, and compliance reporting. • Assist in ensuring that agents receive appropriate compliance and AML training and understand their obligations. • Maintain records of agent reviews, findings, and any corrective actions or follow-up measures. • Escalate material concerns regarding agent conduct or performance to the management.
4. Ongoing monitoring and compliance controls • Support the monitoring of client transactions and account activity in accordance with the Company’s AML/CFT framework. • Review alerts, exceptions, and other compliance-related matters and ensure that they are appropriately investigated and documented. • Assist in monitoring compliance with applicable client classification, appropriateness, and other regulatory requirements. • Support the review of complaints and identify potential regulatory or conduct-related issues. • Assist in monitoring the implementation of remedial actions arising from compliance reviews, audits, or regulatory findings. • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the Company’s compliance and AML controls.
5. Training and awareness • Assist in delivering AML/KYC and compliance training to relevant employees and agents. • Promote awareness of regulatory obligations, internal policies, and financial crime risks. • Keep abreast of relevant regulatory developments and communicate material changes to the Board of Directors.
Qualifications and experience
Essential • CySEC Advanced Examination certification. • CySEC AML Examination certification. • Bachelor’s degree in law, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Compliance, Risk Management, or a related field. • Previous experience in compliance, AML, KYC, or a related role within the financial services industry. • Good knowledge of AML/CFT principles, KYC requirements, customer due diligence, sanctions screening, and risk-based compliance. • Strong attention to detail and ability to review client files and identify deficiencies. • Good analytical, organizational, and communication skills. • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks across different regulated entities. • High level of integrity, discretion, and professional judgement.
Desirable • Experience with Mauritius FSC regulatory requirements, particularly in relation to investment dealers, AML/CFT, and compliance oversight. • Experience working within a CySEC-regulated investment firm / CIF. • Experience in the Forex / CFD industry. • Relevant AML/CFT professional certification, such as ACAMS, ICA, or FSI, or another recognised equivalent. • Experience in agent / introducer monitoring and sales conduct oversight. • Experience with transaction monitoring systems, KYC platforms, sanctions screening tools, and compliance monitoring software. • Knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements relating to client classification, appropriateness, conduct of business, and investor protection. • Experience in preparing compliance reports, conducting compliance reviews, or supporting regulatory audits.
